What A Great View to say I Do.

Istvan and Viki are from Hungary. They met in 2008 on a bike tour of Slovakia and have the shared dream to buy a house, up a mountain, with a vineyard and fill it with kids and cats. In 2017 they were engaged to be married but they knew they did not want a big extravagant wedding. They had a holiday booked to Madeira and then suddenly thought.. why don’t we get married while we are there!

So they sent me an email and we started planning. I organised having all their documents translated, booked the registrar to complete the legal side of the wedding and then chose a location to hold their intimate Ceremony.  They brought their own photographer friend Oscar from Sweden to Madeira to capture the event.

So the day started with Viki and Istvan in casual clothes to complete the legal paperwork in Santa Cruz.  I had organised a translator as the short Ceremony was in Portuguese, but there was lots of fun, smiles and excitement.  Then for a stroll on the beach followed by a drink in a local bar and then back to their accommodation to get dressed for the main Ceremony.

Elopements are very personal and allow couples to totally relax without having to worry about other people.  But some elements need to be thought through, such as the ‘first look’.  With no aisle as such and with the couple, myself and Oscar travelling together to the Ceremony location, the first look was organised at their accommodation and captured by Oscar.  It was so lovely.  And once they checked each other over, everyone jumped into the jeep to travel to the amazing location.

There are loads of beautiful locations to choose from in Madeira for a Ceremony with an amazing view.  Istvan and Viki didn’t mind having a walk to the perfect spot and so we chose Miradouro dos Balcões.  It involved a 20 minute walk through the magical forest to reach the viewpoint.  When we arrived we started the Ceremony almost immediately as no one else was there.  As the Ceremony proceeded, a handful of tourists arrived and sat quietly until the end.  Then one by one they began to sing a choral type song that was so beautiful and made the perfect end to this amazing Ceremony.  A few more photos and everyone skipped back through the forest stopping for photos on the way.

They travelled back to Funchal and that evening enjoyed a romantic meal at a local restaurant.

Thank you Istvan and Viki for sharing your story and your photos.
